Each year the Buddhist Church of Oakland honors its senior members with a special Keirokai service. This service is a way for the Sangha to say “thank you” for their years of hard work, commitment and support. The only requirement to join Keirokai is that the Church member be 75 years or older. Church members are not required to join Keirokai (but are encouraged to join). There are no membership fees or dues.

Fall Ohigan is the observance of the Autumnal Equinox, when day and night are equal. In ancient times in Japan, this was considered a good time to engage in Buddhist study and practice. It allows us a wonderful opportunity to listen to the teachings and rededicate ourselves to the Pure Land Path.

The Eitaikyo Perpetual Memorial Service is held in appreciation and respect for all those departed members who supported and assisted our temples and who wished to ensure the continuation of Shinran Shonin’s teachings. This annual event will have participants from all BCA temples throughout the United States. We welcome you to join us for this important event. This online service is open to the public and is being held in conjunction with the Ministers’ Association & National Council Meeting 2021 (NCM).
